Ulysse Nardin's Entry-Level Freak
Try a New Look.
The latest iteration of Ulysse Nardin's most affordable Freak is the Freak X Crystalium, a limited edition that blends the Freak's disruptive aesthetic with novel decorative elements in the form of the Crystalium dial.
Although its appearance is almost organic, Crystalium is actually made of ruthenium crystals deposited using physical vapor deposition (PVD). This advanced and unique material is not only decorative but also evokes the Freak's origins as a material pioneer.
Since the first watch was launched in 2001, the Freak has been a core collection for Ulysse Nardin. It's known for its groundbreaking, bold technical construction and pioneering use of silicon.
But lately, it's felt watered down; the Freak X has abandoned those exotic technologies in favor of making the iconic design more accessible. And the Freak X's numerous iterations haven't helped.
Paradoxically, the new Freak X watch returns to one of the Freak collection's core values: material science. Over the years, Ulysse Nardin has used the Freak as a platform to experiment with a variety of materials, from the DIAMonSIL escapement to silicon movement bridges to the monobloc oscillator.
